Did you know you can heal yourself from pain and suffering?

Hundreds of thousands of people around the world suffer from chronic pain, depression, hormone imbalances, and various illnesses that prevent us from living life the way we would like. We have come to rely on prescription drugs to help us cope not knowing there are other alternatives that can help. You may have even tried herbal remedies to no avail and feel defeated. How often do we start a new medicine rather it be herbal or chemical and think, “Well I guess it won’t hurt to try”.  Most of us fear the dreaded side effects that will come from the new medicine we are given.

Unfortunately, today’s doctors and pharmaceutical companies tend to use us as lab rats testing drug after to drug on us. If one doesn’t work, they will just keep trying until one does. The side effects are just something we get use to because we believe it’s better than the alternative. However, what people don’t realize is they are just masking one symptom while giving themselves a handful more to deal with. When you live with chronic pain or with a mental illness you begin to lose your inner joy over time. Most days you feel like your illness defines who you are as a person.

Trying to seek help can be frightening. We have all seen the commercials about various prescription drugs. For instance, a medication I see almost every day on TV is Lyrica for  Fibromyalgia. The commercial states the medication is used to treat pain. However, they say it cannot take all the pain away and you may have to use a back up medication along with it for best results. Without factoring in the second medication, the side effects for Lyrica alone are disturbing. Normal and possible side effects for this popular distributed medication are; drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, difficulty concentrating, swollen arms/legs, weight gain, blurred vision, unusual bleeding/bruising, unsteadiness, confusion, muscle pain/tenderness/weakness (especially if you are tired or have a fever), swelling of hands/legs/feet, change in amount of urine.

A small number of people who take anticonvulsants for any condition (such as seizure, bipolar disorder, pain) may experience depression, suicidal thoughts/attempts, or other mental/mood problems. Tell your doctor right away if you or your family/caregiver notice any unusual/sudden changes in your mood, thoughts, or behavior including signs of depression, suicidal thoughts/attempts, thoughts about harming yourself.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash,itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. -WebMed

This is not even a complete list of possible side effects.

Doesn’t that make you excited to start the new medication with high hopes of feeling like a brand new person. Of course it does not. You start out taking one medication and before long you find yourself taking multiple medications to treat the symptoms of the first. This doesn’t upset the pharmaceutical industry because they just keep making more money off you.

What can we do? Have you ever heard of holistic healing? Most of us have heard of meditation and exercises like Yoga. Both of these practices can be wonderfully relaxing and healing. Holistic healing is taking a step further. It’s learning how to connect with your mind, body, and soul in an amazing way you probably didn’t know you could do. No, this isn’t some type of witchcraft, it’s an untapped power we all have.
